What I like about different OSes

I use three different operating systems for a variety of things. At work I am required to use Windows XP. At home I use Windows 2000 for gaming. For graphics and programming I use Linux. And for surfing, and video I use Apple's OS X.

Some things I like about Windows (XP):

• 10 year old programs still work (especially old favorite games)
• Games are widely available (Half-Life)

Things I like about Linux (Ubuntu):

• Insane amount of customization if you want it.
• Free and open.
• Auto-update entire system (EVERY single application) with a single command.
• Wide range of network tools are typically included by default.
• Easy to administer.
• Almost never have to reboot for an update.
• Helpful community.
• No real viruses, and no spyware to be afraid of.
• Easy to run as a restricted user and still get things done.
• Middle-click copy and paste.
• Very very quick formatting of large hard disks (maybe 15 to 20 seconds tops).

Things I like about OS X (Tiger):

• Best looking out of the 3.
• Very easy to use, especially with media hardware like cameras, scanners, and camcorders.
• Great multimedia applications included (like iTunes, iMovie).
• Very stable.
• Same basic underpinnings as Linux, so it is easy to apply Linux/UNIX knowledge to OS X.
• Easy to configure (not the same as administer).
• No real viruses or spyware to be afraid of.
• Easy to run as a restricted user and still get things done.
