Hawai'i - The Sixth, Historical Day

On every vacation, you should have a day of reflection (read: sleeping all day). This was that kind of day.

Pearl Harbor

The USS Arizona Memorial

Not worth the wait in the hot sun.

We met Jeff and Vivian at the park's entrance - they let us cut in line behind them. Chris was our saviour and brought burgers and fries for us before we starved to death in the hot tropical sun. Anything to stop my sister's insistent cries for food, unless...

Chris' incredibly wonderful behaviour on this trip is probably due to my sister's presence. Later on he will be the gentlemen who retrieves her bags, holds the door, picks up the tab, etc. In my own estimation, he has no chance, thank goodness.

Arrival at Kona

Chris settles in

After Pearl Harbor we flew from Honolulu to Kona Airport on the big island, Hawai'i. I rented a car and we drove to the Hawai'ian Village Resort. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo was very nice, and very free (thanks Grandma!). We found a grocery store and bought an unbelievable amount of food for the short time we were there. In the end we ate most of it, so I guess it was just right.

Karen made tacos while I fumbled around with slicing up tomatoes, avocados, and peppers. Chris dined on his wonderful frozen pizzas, and Kristen ate something noxiously healthy, probably a bit of lettuce with some cottage cheese.
