Tintagel...

...is located on an island in Cornwall. Its quite a climb because of the steps, which are uneven and very steep. The views are worth the hike though. I walked among the ruins of Tintagel Castle, which according to legend is the birth place of King Arthur. There are caves at the bottom, but I couldn't get to them because we visited during high tide. I did get very close to the water, and was really impressed by the whole area. OK, "impressed" really isn't the word I'm searching for. This was the best place we visited. I mean, come on! King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and rocks to climb on! What more do you want? I could've stayed there all day.

Since there's so many pictures I've divided up them with some comments.

You start out at the top of a large hill, and walk down a paved road. About half-way to the bottom there's a path that branches off and goes up another hill (closer towards the ocean). That's the way I went, the others headed down the road. At the entrance was a ticket booth. I explained to the clerk I didn't realize there were two entrances, and that the rest of my group had probably paid for me. When I met up with Mom later, she told me she hadn't paid, so I went back to settle my account. The guy said not to bother anyways, which was pretty cool.

As you continue walking you go up and down steep staircases, eventually you can get pretty close to the edge of the cliff. There are some ruined foundations along the cliff's edge, and a crazy stair-stepped wall with holes in it.

There was a little hollow "cave" type thingy near the edge. On the opposite side there's a stream that becomes a waterfall when it reaches the cliffs.

There are just some great views of the area, which is why I'm glad I had a camera. You're probably not so happy about it though.

The cliffs end abruptly, as cliffs often do. There were lots of people chilling out, napping, or eating picnic lunches.

There was a small tunnel. One entrance had rope around it and a sign saying it was an "archeological area", please keep out. The other side had no such sign, so I went in that way. This tunnel may have once been someone's cellar.

At last, we actually get to see Tintagel. I did get closer, but none of those photos turned out very well. It was still exciting to be in the place where legends were born. England rules.

After I had my fill of climbing around on top of the cliffs and ruins, I went down to the bottom and climbed around near the water instead. Like I said above, the water was too deep and powerful to get to the caves, but I got pretty close. The water was an amazing blue, which I didn't expect so far north.

And that wraps up Tintagel. What a great day :) 45 photos...I'm glad I had a digital camera.
